Description
Our single vineyard 2016 Estate Shiraz is produced exclusively from fruit grown at the Dahlberg family Vineyard in Murrumbateman. This release features the inclusion of 3% Viognier and 20% whole bunches in the fermentation, with maturation taking place over 14 months in French oak puncheons (30% new). It’s hard to picture a better growing season than the one we enjoyed leading up to the 2016 Canberra harvest; mild, dry, and most importantly – frost free. The warmer ripening period that followed meant that flavour and phonologic ripeness arrived at around 14.2 Baumé – at least 0.5 Baumé above the norm for this vineyard. Subsequently, the 2016 vintage has delivered one of our most powerful release of Canberra Shiraz yet, and for me this year’s style evokes the phrase, “fist in a velvet glove!”
